  • Important Announcement!

    Hey there, lovely couples!

Planning a wedding can be a whirlwind of decisions and excitement, and sometimes things come together at the last minute. We get it, and we’re here to help. However, we wanted to take a moment to share some important information with you regarding booking your wedding videography with us.

If you’re considering booking us for your big day with less than 6 months to go before your wedding date, we want to be upfront with you about what to expect. While we pride ourselves on delivering professional video coverage rain or shine, we need to be honest about our editing process.

Here’s the deal: editing your wedding footage is a labor-intensive, time-consuming process that we approach with a meticulous and creative mindset. We want to ensure that every frame captures the magic of your day, and rushing through this process simply isn’t an option if we want to maintain the high quality of our work.

So, after careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to stop accepting bookings made less than 6 months prior to the wedding date. This allows us to dedicate the time and attention your wedding deserves without compromising on quality. We cannot take last-minute couples at the cost of the time of those who booked us way in advance.

Now, we understand that feedback about our rates has been that they are high. However, our current rates reflect the minimum cost of professional filmmaking in today’s market, and anything less would mean cutting corners – something we’re simply not willing to do. While we’ve learned from our own mistakes and made adjustments to prevent last-minute rushes in our post-production schedule, we also understand the urgency of your needs.

However, fear not! We’re more than happy to recommend some exceptionally talented filmmakers based in New York who are building their own businesses and are available to take on bookings with less than 6 months’ notice.

Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and we want to ensure that your memories are captured beautifully. Thank you for understanding our commitment to delivering the highest quality videography services possible.

    Warm regards,

    Alex New York Wedding Films

  • Describing Documentary Wedding Filmmaking

Documentary Wedding Filmmaking is a style of documentary filmmaking that is characterized by spontaneity, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances. A documentary wedding filmmaker is someone who is comfortable working on the fly, moving quickly from one location to the next, and filming as it happens. This style of filmmaking is often associated with a sense of urgency and immediacy, as the filmmaker works to capture important moments as they unfold.

One of the key qualities of our documentary wedding filmmakers is adaptability. In order to be successful, the filmmaker must be able to quickly adjust to changing conditions, whether it’s a sudden change in lighting or an unexpected development of the events. They must also be skilled at working with minimal crew and equipment, often relying on handheld and unmanned additional cameras, gimbals, limited available light and audio recording solutions to capture the full experience of the wedding.

In contrast to documentary wedding filmmaking, directed filmmaking involves a more planned and controlled approach to the process of creation of your wedding film. The filmmaker has a specific vision in mind and works to carefully orchestrate each shot and scene to achieve that vision. This approach can be more time-consuming and may require a larger crew and more equipment than documentary wedding filmmaking.

Ultimately, the choice between documentary wedding filmmaking and more directed wedding filmmaking aproach depends on the style that best suits the couple. While directed wedding filmmaking can offer a more polished and stylized finished product, documentary wedding filmmaking can provide a sense of immediacy and authenticity that is hard to replicate through more controlled methods.

    Our documentary wedding filmmakers are…

    1. Agile: Our documentary wedding filmmaker needs to be able to move quickly and adapt to changing situations on the fly. They need to be nimble and able to work with minimal equipment and crew.
    2. Resourceful: Because documentary wedding filmmaking often involves working with limited resources, a filmmaker needs to be creative and resourceful in order to get the shots they need.
    3. Spontaneous: Our documentary wedding filmmakers often rely on capturing spontaneous moments as they happen, rather than planning out every shot in advance. This requires a willingness to go with the flow and embrace unpredictability.
    4. Versatile: Our documentary wedding filmmakers often find themselves working in a variety of settings and situations. They need to be able to adjust their approach and style to suit the needs of each situation.
    5. Collaborative: Although documentary wedding filmmaking can be a solitary pursuit, it often requires collaboration with other wedding vendors in order to get the shots and footage needed. Our documentary wedding filmmakers work well with others.
    6. Passionate: Documentary wedding filmmaking can be a challenging and unpredictable endeavor, and requires a lot of dedication and passion in order to do successful job. Our Documentary wedding filmmakers have a deep love for the craft and a willingness to go the extra mile to get the shot.

Having a “Wedding Video Archive” has many benefits. For one, it allows you to relive the entire day, including moments that may have been forgotten. • Benefits of Documentary Wedding Videography

Documentary wedding videography is a style of videography that captures the candid, unscripted moments of a wedding day. It is a more natural and authentic way of filming a wedding compared to traditional videography, which often includes staged and posed footage.

Tears of joy during the ceremony, the laughter and dancing at the reception, and the quiet moments shared between the bride and groom. These candid moments are often the most cherished memories of a wedding day, and are what make documentary wedding videography so valuable.

Another important aspect of documentary wedding videography is its storytelling approach. A good documentary wedding videographer will not only capture the events of the day, but also the emotions and feelings that go along with them. Documentary wedding videographers use smaller, more discreet equipment, such as mirrorless cameras and gimbal stabilizers, to capture footage without drawing attention to themselves.

One of the most valuable aspects of documentary wedding videography is that it allows couples to relive their special day in a natural and authentic way that feels true to their experience.

It is important to note that, documentary wedding videography is not for everyone. Some couples may prefer the more polished and stylized look of traditional videography. It is also important to find a wedding videographer who understands and is able to execute the documentary style of videography.

Documentary wedding videography is a unique and valuable way of capturing the emotions and candid moments of a wedding day. It allows couples to relive their special day in a natural and authentic way and also document the cultural and traditional aspects of a wedding. It is a great way to create a personal and emotional story of the wedding day that will be cherished in future.

  • Documentary Wedding Video qualities

Your wedding day can go by in a blur, but having a high-quality video can help you relive it countless times. If the thought of watching a wedding film filled with staged scenes and posed shots doesn’t seem thrilling, keep in mind that documentary wedding video takes a completely different approach capturing the essence of your wedding in an exciting way.

    Documentary Wedding Video Style

Documentary wedding videos are designed to create a lively and natural impression of your wedding day. The bride and groom don’t expect to recreate particular events in order to get perfect footage or pose for the videographer. Documentary wedding video style focuses on catching candid moments on film without intruding on you or your guests. This helps me, documentary wedding videographer, craft a video that truly preserves the magic of your big day.

    Filming Process

The days of having a wedding videographer lugging around a huge camera while filming are mostly over. Instead of using this cumbersome equipment, modern documentary filmmakers use the latest state-of-the-art cameras. Since these cameras are compact in size, we can wander around your wedding without drawing attention. In fact, most of your guests will probably assume that we’re fellow guests taking our own videos and pictures on personal cameras.

    Editing

The editing process for documentary wedding film relies heavily on being able to tell a story. While we have a rough idea of how your video should be organized, the way it ultimately unfolds depends on the footage we capture. Rather than sticking to a certain outline, we make creative decisions to craft a captivating video that includes candid, touching moments that come together to paint a memorable picture of your big day.

  • Perspective changing wedding videographer values

    Perspective changing wedding videographer values

Wedding videographer adds values you might not have thought of before. So if you are on the fence about having your blissful day documented, consider the following.

    Entertainment

Don’t underestimate how entertaining your wedding film will be. Those funny little moments you might not have caught while it was going on are on video to laugh about for decades. Priceless. And hilarious. With perfect music everything ties together in an unforgettable way that is an artistic portrayal of your wedding. You can share it through social media with your friends and family.

    Wedding Videographer Documents History

As the years go on, you might remember the overall feeling of your wedding day, but not the specifics. That’s why it’s a good idea to have it  documented in a beautiful film. It’s truly a carefully edited movie of your event, a statement piece of wedding videography, that is going to make everybody smile long into the future as you pass it down to generations.

    Parents Love Wedding Videos

Your parents love and adore you. They even more so, enjoy seeing you happy so they can watch your wedding video a million times and not get tired of it. They’ll show their friends, play it for relatives, and even just watch it alone. It makes them happy, so why not give them a memento of that special day? They will truly appreciate the sentiment.

    Relationships

There is something truly unique about sitting down with your spouse, after many years go by, to watch the day you got married. It can even strengthen your bond if you make it a tradition to watch it on your anniversary year after year. No one ever remembers their vows exactly, but with the right presentation of the that day, it’s all there so you can soak up all the love of the moment.

  • Wedding film styles. Cinematic or Documentary?

Wedding film styles. Cinematic or Documentary?

When searching for a wedding videographer, one of the most important decisions you’ll have to make regards the type of video you actually want. Understanding the differences between a cinematic wedding film and one with a more documentary approach is key, as it will help you pick the technique that is best for you and what you’re looking for from the end result.

    The Cinematic Wedding Film

A number of core qualities both define a cinematic wedding film and separate it from one shot in the documentary style. You can expect qualities like:

    • Subjects that make direct eye contact with the camera
    • Staged slow motion, sliding, gliding scenes and other techniques
    • A bulky equipment setup. For the best results, a cinematic wedding video will require things like a camera rig with a big lens, a slider, a Steadycam, tripods, additional crew and more, creating a significant footprint during your event.

In that regard, a cinematic wedding video is very similar to a photoshoot. The wedding filmmaker will guide you, create certain situations and interactions and will ultimately require more “face time” with you in order to create the most cinematic look and feel possible.

    The Documentary Wedding Film

A documentary wedding film, on the other hand, is by its very nature less intrusive. While the camera is present during the entire day, the filmmaker will not be guiding you or recreating certain situations or events – he or she is merely there to capture the events of the day exactly as they unfold. Slow motion, sliding, gliding scenes and other more cinematic techniques achieved in the process of naturally unfolding events and not being staged.

Because of this, a documentary wedding video will have an overall natural look and feel to it. There will be minimum or occasional eye contact with the camera. The camera is intended to be the eye of the viewer. In addition to a minimalistic camera setup, the documentary wedding filmmaker will go completely unnoticed. They are an impartial, third-party observer that has no effect on the day, but is merely there to capture even the smallest details exactly as they occurred.

  • Breaking Wedding Highlight Reel traditions.

Choosing to build your wedding highlight reel around a documentary style is a great, creative way to actually tell a compelling story with footage from before, during and after your ceremony. If you have decided to embrace this particular filmmaking technique, there are a few key “traditions” that you’ll do well to avoid as much as possible.

“In the Beginning…” of wedding highlight reel

Documentary-style wedding highlight reel is all about capturing the reality of your wedding day. Because of this, you’ll want to avoid starting your video with either background voice-over tracks of your officiant leading the ceremony, you reading your vows, or even worse – the best man or maid of honor delivering their speech. This is a huge red flag that your video will lack a story, which is the cornerstone of creating the type of compelling video you actually want to watch again in the future.

    Accessories

Sometimes a wedding videographer will suggest that you focus on the little details. They’ll want to fill your wedding video with sliding camera shots of things like shoes and accessories, when in reality what they should be capturing is your expressions and reactions. Capturing how you FELT about those items is more important than the items themselves.

    Slow Motion Wedding Highlights

There’s a reason why most documentary feature films don’t include huge numbers of slow motion shots: they destroy the reality of the moment. While slow motion is a great tool to draw a moving portrait of a couple, capture a smile, a kiss or a dance move, building the entire story in slow motion is just not right because of single undeniable reason: you do not leave your life in slow motion and it just doesn’t seem natural.

    Interviews

Once again, documentary-style wedding video highlight reels are all about truth, honesty and accuracy. Instead of lining all of your guests up against a wall and making them say nice things about you into a camera (which is awkward to say the least), capture them having fun at the peak of your wedding to paint a picture of the CELEBRATION itself.

    Recreations

While recreating events or staging shots is fine for your photographer, it’s absolutely not a good idea for your wedding video. No recreated shot will ever be able to capture the emotion present in a genuine, verite-style candid shot.
